Miriam Hacksaw is a trans Malayali-American old time musician based in New Orleans. She is known for reinterpreting folk songs from Kerala, India on fiddle and banjo. She has recorded two EPs of original music written into the tradition, with lyrical topics surrounding liberation movements and the apocalypse. “The Lupine” (2024) and “Thunhayenikkeshuvaam” (coming out June 21st, 2026). Miriam grew up in Eugene, Oregon and began touring with punk bands out of Seattle. Since moving to New Orleans, she has been touring full time all across North America, performing in listening rooms, bookstores and community-run venues as well as facilitating workshops on old time music, oral music traditions, and the Malayali diaspora. She is co-founder, manager and fiddler for Blowgun, a collective of traditional musicians based in Louisiana. Miriam also tours annually with the Flotsam River Circus (rivercircus.com).
